Oops Google did it again. They played with your SERPS. They made you believe we’re more than just friends – They updated their core algorithms. What? You thought this was a Britney Spears lyric page?

On a more serious note let’s take a look at the newest Google Update that just arrived.

Google Core Update

This is a core update so it doesn’t impact one think such as improving your website speed. It’s broad spectrum and should be considered as a revaluation of your web site content.  Google tells us we should think of a broad core update like this:

“One way to think of how a core update operates is to imagine you made a list of the top 100 movies in 2015. A few years later in 2019, you refresh the list. It’s going to naturally change. Some new and wonderful movies that never existed before will now be candidates for inclusion. You might also reassess some films and realize they deserved a higher place on the list than they had before.”

They go on to say, “The list will change, and films previously higher on the list that move down aren’t bad. There are simply more deserving films that are coming before them.”

How do I optimize for this update?

Are you wishing that heroes exist? They do! We are going to tell you how to optimize your website for this new update and you may not like it.

SEO Best Practises

Let’s simplify things. SEO comes to two core items: Content and Back links. Content is the written text on your website and backlinks are the other websites on the internet linking to your website.

Content

Google is evaluating the content it wants as a top contender.  Our research shows that regular blog posts that are between 1,000 to 2,000 words consistently rank the highest even after most updates.

Create content that is fun, engaging, timeless and most importantly original. The more practical and original your content is it will rank for longer a period.

Does your content draw from other sources? If so, state it! Create an outbound link to that source. This improves your trust flow both from a Google perspective and a user perspective.

Don’t use click-bait. Content that has headlines that are shocking or overly exaggerated will cause you to get ranked lower in the SERPS.

Be active! Google wants to showcase sites that are active and continuously updating. For best results you need to aim for a blog article a week.

Creating content is time consuming. This content marketing service will be able to help you create consistent content.

Backlinks

The quality of links coming to your website matters too.  You will want to look for some of the following in your backlinks:

  • You are posting a blog article on a reputable site that is relevant to your niche.
  • You are posting on a site with a low spam score.
  • You are posting original content
  • Where possible post on Google News approved websites.
  • The website you post on has a high domain authority. The higher the better.

When it comes to the amount of links there is no magical number but always think "quality over quantity".  Using services such as these can help boost your website with quality links.

Wrapping it all up

Many specialists will say there’s nothing you can do to avoid penalties and mix ups when there’s a core update. That is true to some extent and the opposite for others some sites reap the rewards. But lose all your senses we at Snap SEO got your back.  Creating quality content and links for your website is the best way to get your website ranked.
